You know that feeling when you spot a perfect frosted piece of cobalt blue glass hiding in the wet sand? I get it every single time. But once you bring those treasures home, they usually just sit in a jar. Today on Sea Glass Creations, we are going to change that. Let us turn your fresh beach finds into a gorgeous wall hanging.

## What You Need to Get Started

Keep it simple. You do not need fancy tools. Here at Sea Glass Creations, I always say the best crafts use things you already have or can find easily.

- Your freshly collected sea glass
- A nice piece of driftwood about 12 to 18 inches long
- Thin craft wire or strong clear fishing line
- Jewelry glue or a hot glue gun
- Wire cutters and pliers
- A small hook or twine for hanging

## Step 1: Clean and Sort Your Finds

Before we make anything, we need to prep the glass. When you bring your haul back to your craft table, give it a good rinse. I like to soak mine in warm soapy water for about ten minutes. This gets rid of any sticky salt or hidden sand. Sometimes I use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the stubborn dirt out of the little crevices. Dry them completely with a soft towel.

Next, sort your pieces by size and color. For a wall hanging, I love mixing different shades of green and brown, but a pop of rare red or blue looks amazing too. Pick out your favorite pieces to be the focal points.

### Step 2: Choose Your Driftwood Base

The base of your wall hanging sets the whole vibe. Look for a piece of driftwood that has a nice natural curve or some interesting texture. If you cannot find driftwood, a sturdy fallen branch from your yard works just fine.

Give the wood a quick scrub with a stiff brush to remove loose bark or dirt. Let it dry in the sun for a day if it is damp. At Sea Glass Creations, we love keeping things as natural as possible, so do not worry about sanding it perfectly smooth. The rough edges add to the coastal charm.

### Step 3: Attach the Sea Glass

Now for the fun part. You have two easy ways to attach your glass to the wood.

**Method A: Wire Wrapping**

If your sea glass pieces have nice grooves or are somewhat flat, wrap a piece of thin craft wire around the glass. Twist the wire to secure it, leaving a long tail. You will use this tail to wrap around the driftwood later. This method looks very rustic and lets the light shine through the glass. It takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is very relaxing.

**Method B: Gluing**

If wire wrapping sounds like too much work, just use glue. A strong jewelry glue is best, but a hot glue gun works in a pinch. Just put a small dab on the back of the sea glass and press it firmly onto the driftwood. Hold it for a few seconds. Sea Glass Creations always recommends testing your glue on a scrap piece of wood first just to be safe.

## Step 4: Assemble and Hang

Lay your driftwood flat on your table. Start placing your sea glass pieces on the wood to plan your design. I like to put the largest and brightest pieces near the center and let the smaller lighter pieces trail off toward the ends.

Once you are happy with the layout, start attaching them. If you used wire, wrap the wire tails tightly around the driftwood and tuck the sharp ends underneath with your pliers. If you are gluing, just stick them down one by one.

Let the glue cure completely if you used liquid glue. This usually takes a few hours.

Finally, tie a piece of twine or jute string to both ends of the driftwood to create a hanger. Make sure the knot is tight and the twine is strong enough to hold the weight of the wood and glass.

## Displaying Your Coastal Art

Find a spot on your wall that gets some nice natural light. When the sun hits the frosted sea glass, it glows beautifully. It brings a little piece of the ocean right into your living room.

I hope this guide inspires you to get crafty with your beachcombing haul. Remember, there is no wrong way to make art. If a piece falls off or the wire looks a little messy, just embrace it. That is the beauty of handmade coastal decor.
